Snapshot Genetic Genealogist

Parabon NanoLabs, based in Reston, Virginia, seeks a Genetic Genealogist with a strong track record of solving unknown parentage cases using genetic genealogy research methods to assist the company's Snapshot® DNA Analysis team in solving criminal and unidentified remains cases.
Responsibilities
The following are examples of the types of responsibilities of the position:
- Perform independent genetic genealogy research to identify an unknown person beginning with genetic matches identified via GEDmatch
- Use public sources of information (e.g., birth records, newspaper archives) to build family trees of matches
- Employ descendancy research, in conjunction with the possible relationships suggested by the amount of shared DNA, to identify individuals who have a family relationship at the appropriate distance to the matches
- Use metadata such as sex, age range, and proximity to a crime to narrow down a list of possible candidates
- Write reports that effectively and succinctly communicate the facts and rationale that support the conclusions drawn from such analysis
- Deliver web briefings to law enforcement that summarize such analysis
Required Qualifications
In order to be effective in the position, the candidate must have:
- At least three (3) years of work experience performing genetic genealogy for unknown parentage cases
- Excellent written and oral communication skills (a writing sample will be requested during the application process)
- Ability to work with focus and determination for long periods of time
- Strong attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework in genetic genealogy; please provide description of completed courses
- Experience using online collaboration tools (e.g., Google Docs, Google Spreadsheets, WebEx/Skype)
- Experience using drawing tools to create graphics from scratch for inclusion in reports and presentations
- Presentation experience in front of groups either in person or via video meetings
- Ideally, the candidate will be located in the Washington, DC metro area and able to commute to the Reston, Virginia office; however, a telecommuting position will be considered for exceptionally strong candidates residing outside the area.
